Klinička ili medicinska biohemija, najzastupljenija grana laboratorijske medicine, kao specijalistička struka i naučna disciplina bavi se praćenjem metaboličkih procesa u odnosu na fiziološke i patološke promjene u organizmu čovjeka. Analizom biološkog materijala različitim tehnikama dolazi do niza informacija u cilju predikcije razvoja, dijagnostike, praćenja toka i prognoze ishoda bolesti.
Crnogorsko društvo kliničke hemije i laboratorijske medicine (CGDKH) je član međunarodnih strukovnih federacija: balkanske (BCLF), evropske (EFLM) i internacionalne (IFCC), a većina članova CGDKH je dio EFLM registra specijalista laboratorijske medicine (EuSpLM).
Cilj CGDKH je da okuplja specijaliste kliničke/medicinske biohemije i medicinske biohemičare u cilju unapređenja i razvoja svih grana ove oblasti podizanjem stručnog i naučnog nivoa kadrova, pokreće i utiče na rješavanje pitanja koja se odnose na ovu oblast, organizuje radne, stručne i naučne sastanke, seminare i kongrese, te razmjenjuje stručna i naučna iskustva sa odgovarajućim udruženjima i organizacijama u Crnoj Gori i inostranstvu.
How to write a good scientific and professional article
Introduction
The Montenegrin Association of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (MACC) has recognized the growing need of its members for proper presentation of their professional and scientific work through publishing results in international journals.
With great pleasure, and in collaboration with the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM), the Society is organizing the course entitled: “How to write a good scientific and professional article.”
This initiative was developed by the EFLM Committee for Congresses and Postgraduate Education, within the EFLM Division on Education and Profession, as a response to the strong demand from EFLM members for educational tools.
The course is designed as an interactive workshop in small groups, focused on practical knowledge applicable to everyday research work.
Course Information
The course is designed as an interactive workshop where participants will work in pairs, with one laptop required for each pair. It is recommended, though not mandatory, that participants use their own research data during the exercises.
Participation is limited to fewer than fifty attendees, which makes registration mandatory via the official website of the Montenegrin Society of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine: www.cgdkh.me.
Registration will be open from 17 to 31 August 2026, and each participant will receive a confirmation of attendance after registering.
For members of the Society, participation is free of charge, while other interested colleagues are required to pay a fee of 100 EUR. Payment instructions will be sent by email once the registration has been confirmed.

Lecturers’ Biographies
Prof. Daria Pašalić
Medical Biochemist · University of Zagreb School of Medicine
Prof. Daria Pašalić (née Mikačić) is a medical biochemist and full professor at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. She graduated in 1993, obtained her MSc in 2000, and earned her PhD in 2004 at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry in Zagreb, focusing on lipoprotein lipase and lipid metabolism disorders.
Her scientific work spans biomedicine, particularly atherogenesis, lipid metabolism, and molecular diagnostics. She has participated in numerous national and EU-funded projects, supervised several doctoral theses, and co-authored many scientific papers, university textbooks, and manuals.
At the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, she teaches Medical Chemistry and Biochemistry I and II, as well as Clinical Biochemistry, in both Croatian and English. She is also active in postgraduate and doctoral programs, coordinating the course Biochemical Methods in Biomedical Research.
She served as Editor-in-Chief of Biochemia Medica (2017–2022), guest editor of Diagnostics (2023–2024), President of HDMBLM (2018–2022), and Chair of the EFLM Education Committee (2017–2024), renewed from 2026. She is the recipient of the EFLM Academy Award 2023.
Ana Bronić, PhD, EuSpLM
Scientific Research Associate · European Specialist in Laboratory Medicine
Ana Bronić, PhD, EuSpLM, is a Scientific Research Associate, a registered European Specialist in Laboratory Medicine, currently working at the Department of Laboratory Diagnostics in Traumatology and Orthopaedics, which is a part of the Clinical Institute of Chemistry at Sestre Milosrdnice University Hospital Centre in Zagreb, Croatia.
She is trained in the operation and management of the accredited laboratory and acts as a consultant in haematology, haemostasis, and clinical biochemistry at the Department.
The primary area of her research interest is haemostasis. She acts as the Head of the Working Group for laboratory coagulation at the Croatian Society of Medical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine and continuously works on the harmonization of laboratory procedures in the field.
Dr Bronic is the author of scientific and professional articles indexed in Current Contents and during her professional career participated at many national and international scientific meetings as an invited speaker, (co)author of abstracts, and a member of the Scientific or Organizing Committee.
Dr Bronic has experience as a reviewer in international scientific journals since 2010 and after finishing a course in 2014 she became Associate Editor of the Biochemia Medica journal. Holding this role, she also participated in educating the young colleagues on scientific writing and editorial skills.
She is a member of the Executive Board of the European- Mediterranean League against thrombosis and an active member of the European Federation of Laboratory Medicine, and the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry.

Monday, 7 September 2026
11:00–11:30 · PRACTICAL TASKS
- Based on the given description of the study and the data presented by lecturer, determine what type of study design it is.
- Based on your own data that you use in your research, determine the study design.
- Based on the project proposals determine which ethical issues should have to be satisfied.
12:15–13:00 · PRACTICAL TASKS
- Identify the research problem: Read a short study summary and underline the main research question.
- Formulate a hypothesis: Based on the problem, write a clear and testable hypothesis.
- Define the study aim: Summarize in one sentence the primary aim of the study.
- Distinguish between primary and secondary objectives: Identify which objectives are central and which are supportive.
- Critique clarity: Evaluate whether the introduction provides enough background to justify the hypothesis.
14:30–15:15 · PRACTICAL TASKS
- List materials and participants: Identify the types of materials, equipment, or subjects used in a provided study scenario.
- Describe study design: Determine whether the study is observational, experimental, cross-sectional, longitudinal, etc.
- Outline procedures step-by-step: Rewrite the methods in your own words, focusing on clarity and reproducibility.
- Identify variables: Distinguish between independent, dependent, and confounding variables.
- Assess ethical considerations: Note whether ethical approval and informed consent are addressed.
16:00–17:00 · PRACTICAL TASKS · ASSIGNMENT FOR PARTICIPANTS
- Read a short results section and identify sentences that are clear and concise versus sentences that are too verbose or vague.
- Rewrite a complex paragraph from the results section to make it more direct and data-focused, avoiding unnecessary interpretation.
- Highlight any statistical values (p-values, confidence intervals) in the text and check whether they are properly reported.
- Examine a table and identify if the variables and units are clearly labeled.
- Suggest improvements to make a table easier to read, e.g., reorder rows/columns, add footnotes, clarify abbreviations.
- Create a small table using sample data (e.g., patient demographics or lab results) following biomedical reporting standards.
- Review a figure (bar chart, line graph, scatter plot) and assess whether the axes are labeled, units are included, and legends are clear.
- Write a figure legend that is informative, concise, and self-explanatory, so the figure can be understood without reading the main text.
- Suggest improvements to an example figure to enhance clarity, contrast, or interpretability.
Practice writing a mini “Results” paragraph integrating one table and one figure effectively.

10:30–11:30 · PRACTICAL TASKS
- Read the results section and identify the key findings. Summarize them in 2–3 sentences.
- Compare the results with the study hypothesis. Do they support, partially support, or contradict it? Explain why.
- Compare their results with previous studies accuratelly and using relevant literature data.
- Locate a reference in the literature that supports or contradicts with your results.
12:35–13:30 · PRACTICAL TASKS
Using a summary of a study (or your own study data), write a concise abstract (150–250 words) that includes:
- Background / rationale
- Study aim and hypothesis
- Methods
- Key results
- Main conclusion
15:00–15:30 · PRACTICAL TASKS
- Review a scenario describing contributions of multiple researchers. Decide who qualifies as an author and who should be acknowledged only.
- Compare your decision with the ICMJE authorship criteria. Are there any differences? Explain.
- Match each contributor in a sample study to the appropriate CRediT role(s) (e.g., Conceptualization, Data Curation, Formal Analysis, Writing – Original Draft).
- Rewrite the author contribution section of a sample paper using CRediT terminology.
